This week on the blog, we’re featuring our very own physical therapy director, Erin Davis, PT. We sat down with her and asked her a few questions!
1. How did you decide to become a physical therapist?
I was very blessed to know what I wanted to do at an early age. In high school, I decided I wanted to become a physical therapist. I had played sports my entire life, really enjoyed talking to people, and thought the human body was amazing. This all led me to choose my career as PT.
2. What types of pathologies do you most like working with?
I really love working with people who have a variety of diagnoses. I enjoy working with any pathologies from general orthopedic issues, neck and back pain, dizziness and vertigo, and patients who have had surgery. I welcome any challenges that come my way.
3. What are your specialties in this field?
I am certified in vestibular rehabilitation and really love working with people who have vertigo, post concussion, and patients with balance disorders. I specialize in the McKenzie Method, which is a safe, structured, evidence based system used to assess and treat patients with spine or extremity pathologies. It uses a series of exercises based on a detailed patient history to determine simple directional movements that patients can use to self-treat. I am also certified in integrative dry needling and love using this technique in conjunction with exercises and other manual techniques to improve pain and functioning.
4. What is your favorite part about being a physical therapist?
The best part about this field is being able to guide people through a program in order for them to restore their functioning. I love when I can help a patient walk up stairs without pain for the first time in years or have a patient who can run for the first time without pain. I enjoy being able to teach people techniques to improve their daily lives. I also really enjoy getting to know my patients. We are so blessed in this field to get to spend so much time with our patients and get to know more about them.
5. What do you like to do in your spare time?
I am married with 2 young children, ages 4 and 6. We enjoy being outdoors, riding bikes, playing sports and going to parks around the area. We also love going to church and are involved with different groups in the church. We are avid football fans and spend a lot of time on the soccer field as well. I also love reading, working out, and cooking in my spare time (which isn’t as abundant these days!).
