Meet Dr. Craig Swisher
The heart behind this new clinic comes from our founder, Dr. Craig Swisher, PT, DPT. After building a successful practice at Reclaim Physical Therapy – Powered by Carolina PT in Batesburg-Leesville and helping countless patients regain confidence and mobility, Dr. Swisher saw a clear need: many patients living in Centerville, Gilbert, and the surrounding communities were traveling long distances just to access quality care. Opening a clinic closer to home became the obvious next step.
Dr. Swisher’s treatment philosophy has always been grounded in hands-on, manual-therapy-driven care in a warm, friendly environment. As his Batesburg-Leesville team grew, he was able to expand his reach and remain actively involved in patient care at both clinics. Today, Carolina PT Centerville brings that same personalized, expert care to a community that deserves easy access to high-quality physical therapy, without the commute.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. What services are offered at Carolina PT Centerville?
Our clinic provides a wide range of services designed to help patients recover, stay mobile, and feel their best. Manual therapy is at the core of what we do, encompassing hands-on techniques that improve mobility, reduce pain, and relax tight or overworked muscles.
For patients requiring more extensive soft-tissue work, we offer instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM), which utilizes small tools to break up scar tissue and enhance mobility. If you’re recovering from surgery, our post-operative rehabilitation program helps restore strength and function safely, based on your surgeon’s guidelines.
We also provide specialized treatments such as dry needling, which targets trigger points and deep muscle tension, and spinal manipulation, a gentle technique used to restore motion and reduce pain in the spine.
Athletes benefit from our sports medicine care, including injury recovery and performance-focused exercises, while older adults appreciate our balance therapy and geriatric care to improve stability and confidence during daily activities.
2. What conditions do you commonly treat?
We frequently treat patients experiencing back pain, neck pain, joint pain, balance challenges, and chronic stiffness. Many of our patients come to us following orthopedic surgeries, sports injuries, or work-related injuries. We also see individuals dealing with vertigo, helping them find relief through targeted vestibular therapy.
Whether you’re recovering from a knee replacement, dealing with persistent shoulder pain, or trying to get back into your sport, we tailor every treatment plan to support your goals.
3. Who will I be working with?
Our Centerville/Gilbert team includes skilled clinicians who are passionate about hands-on care, patient education, and helping people return to the activities that matter most. Many of our therapists hold advanced training in manual therapy, dry needling, orthopedics, and movement science.
We keep appointments personal, welcoming, and approachable. You’ll feel supported from day one.
4. What should I expect during my first visit?
Your first appointment is all about understanding your story. Your therapist will take time to discuss your symptoms, health history, daily activities, and concerns. From there, they’ll assess the joints, muscles, and movement patterns that may be contributing to your pain or limitations.
Most patients begin treatment on the very first visit. You’ll also receive a personalized home exercise program designed to support your progress between sessions.
To prepare, bring your insurance card, ID, any imaging results, and a current medication list. Wear comfortable clothing that you can easily move in.
We aim to make your first visit smooth, stress-free, and informative, like you’re meeting partners in your recovery, not just providers.
5. Do I need a referral to start physical therapy?
In South Carolina, you can begin physical therapy without a doctor’s referral thanks to Direct Access. While some insurance plans still prefer or require a referral, we can evaluate you initially and help you confirm what your plan allows. Starting early often leads to faster improvement.
Note: We do advise that you check with your insurance provider to ensure direct access is acceptable.
6. How long does treatment take?
Most sessions last about an hour, and patients typically visit two to three times per week, depending on their diagnosis and goals. We monitor your progress at each visit and complete more in-depth reassessments every few weeks. This helps ensure your treatment plan evolves as you do.
7. Is physical therapy covered by insurance?
We accept a variety of insurance plans, including Medicare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Humana, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Workers’ Compensation plans, and many other commercial providers. If you’re unsure about your coverage, our team is always happy to help you navigate your benefits.
8. What makes your clinic different?
We pride ourselves on personalized, one-on-one care in a friendly and uplifting environment. Patients often tell us they appreciate the extra attention, the manual therapy focus, and how comfortable they feel with our team.
Dr. Swisher’s Batesburg-Leesville clinic was recently recognized as Best of Lexington 2025 in Sports Medicine, and we carry that same standard of excellence into the Centerville/Gilbert location.
